LEARNING TO DRIVE

Obtaining a Provisional License
Many people are unsure about what the minimum age you can start learning to drive is, rumours have been going around for many years often confusing first time drivers.
You can send off for your provisional license when you are 16 but this does not become valid until your 17th Birthday.

Booking your first lessons
The day has come, you can legally drive on the road but how do you go about booking your first lesson? Let us take all the mystery out of it and do the hard work for you! Choose the right instructor someone you can interact with and feel comfortable with.

Ok, I've had my first lesson so how many more do I need?
There is no set number of lessons that will get you to test standard as each individual pupil learnes at their own pace, your instructor will be able to assess your progress and give you an estimate to how many lessons you need.

The Theory / Hazard Perception Test
You will have to pass it before you can book your all important Practical.
The driving theory test is a 50 question multiple choice test. To pass you must answer 45 or more questions correctly within 40 minutes.
The Hazard Perception Test shows a series 14 one minute video clips, each showing potential driving hazards involving pedestrians, road users and road conditions.

Yeah! I've passed it so now what?
Well done your half way there! You will continue with your driving lessons until you have reached test standard, then its time to book the Practical.

Practical Test
The practical driving test is a 40 minute drive in which you will need to show you can drive competently and safely in all kinds of driving situations. You will be asked to do two of the three reversing manoeuvres that you have practiced with your instructor and maybe an emergency stop.
To pass the test you will need to  have no serious faults and less that 15 minor faults !!!

Now you`re legal, is there anything else You can do?
Ok, so now your legal to drive on the road but take it easy, there's still a lot of new areas you have still to cover, why not try Pass Plus

PASS PLUS

Why Pass Plus ?
Two  young people die under 25 every day in car crashes in Great Britan.
In their 1st year of driving 1 driver in 5 is involved in a crash.
Statistics shows that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first 2 years of driving than at any another time. Not only is this worrying for your personal safety, it also bumps up the premiums for new drivers. That’s where the Pass Plus course can help!

What exactly is it?
Pass Plus is a certificate that you take as a newly qualified driver which not only enhances your skills, but guarantees discounts on your insurance – always high for new drivers
The Pass Plus course is an opportunity for the newly qualified driver to develop his or her skills and venture out in traffic conditions which may not be familiar from the “L” driving lessons.
It will help you:

    * Gain valuable experience safely
    * Build on existing driving skills and knowledge
    * Reduce the risk of a crash
    * Boost confidence
    * Save money on car insurance

How does it work?
Pass Plus consists of 6 practical modules of one hour each. Every driving lesson will cover different subjects, for example night driving, city driving, dual carriageways, motorways, difficult terrain and weather conditions.

When can I do it?
It is strongly recommended You take your Pass Plass as soon as posible after you have passed Your Practical Test.

Do I have to take another test?
No. There is no test as such. As a pupil, your driving will be continually assessed. You must pass all the modules to an achieved or exceeded standard. You as the pupil, and the Driving Instructor, must each sign off every module and complete the Pass Plus course Progress Record and Training Report Form.

How do I get the Certificate?
The Progress Record and Training Report Form are sent to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) who will then issue the Pass Plus Certificate. Not only will you be a safer, more confident and competent driver, but you will also qualify for a substantial discount on your motor insurance premium from companies that support the scheme.
